Is it expensive to stay in Edinburgh hotels?

We travel out of the country often, and we find that some countries have very affordable hotel rooms, while other countries have hotels that are very expensive to stay in. I just wondered which category Edinburgh hotels fall into. Do their hotels vary in price, or do they run about the same? Are they expensive or affordable? We would love to go there on vacation, and we were trying to figure out how much a trip to Edinburgh would cost us.
