The Philippines and Thailand are the main countries involved in the infamous mail-order-bride system. The women who often enlist themselves into the system are those driven by the burning ambition to get out of their country and live in America. These Asian brides usually come from the outskirts of the city, did not finish secondary school and in most cases are pushed by their own family to marry an American. They sign up for the Asian Bride website hoping to find the prince charming who will sweep her off her feet and deliver her (and all her kinfolk) from poverty. They hope for a Cinderella Story, where a handsome blonde will rescue them from the laborious job of farming and living an impoverished life they lead. This is a quintessential story of rags to riches.
