Once I’d taken my first couple of web design courses, I felt ready for anything. After all, I’d mastered coding, could build a navigation bar with the best of them, and knew everything about choosing colors and fonts.

I was so ready to get my website out there.

“Not so fast”, my instructor said. “Have you planned for seo?” “Uh…SE what?”, I replied, sounding incredibly dull, even to myself.

He laughed and explained that I’d need to include keywords in my site and learn a few other techniques in order to be sure my site was actually found on search engines. “Otherwise”, he advised, “your site may as well be invisible.”

I took his advice – that was definitely one lesson well worth the money.
