Do you recognize that the trial ds games downloads may sometimes come with an addition of virus, malware or Trojan? Unwelcome Piggyback Ride

September 5th, 2009 . by admin

When I tell people my 75 year old mother has a computer and emails me every morning they think that is great. Not that it isn’t nice to hear from my mother I just worry about her being too trusting of a person and being on the Internet. Not a great combination. She clicks on links in the emails that people send her and will play games on the web not realizing that malicious programs can piggyback with seemingly legitimate ones and cause a lot of problems.I give her tips for spyware detection and removal because information such as account numbers and passwords can be compromised leading to fraud or even identity theft.

Wireless needs lots of security!

February 28th, 2009 . by admin

With the advent of wireless internet access, wireless security became a major issue that needed to be dealt with seriously.  Most sites offering access, especially those who have it free of charge, will not be secure.  You do not want to be visiting your bank or giving out credit card information while you are online using any wireless access.  It’s just not safe.  You should have security installed on your computer in the form of a firewall,  add some virus protection, and keep it up to date.

You just never know who might be sitting nearby or even out in the parking lot, copying your info and using it with criminal intentions, such as identity theft.  Theft of information on the internet is a huge problem today.

Identity Theft and Flights to Las Vegas

November 2nd, 2008 . by admin

For every person that has their identity stolen, there is one person who had personal information out there that wasn’t being guarded properly. It is no longer safe to assume that personal information is safe when it is handed to a trusted company, because blocks of company records have become the target for some thieves. When purchasing flights to Las Vegas, or anywhere else, protect your personal information at all times by following some of these tips: ~ Street addresses can be searched online for an indication of property or personal worth. Always use a post office box address that is taken out in a spelling of your name that is not the same as spelling on financial records. ~ Ask the credit card company to issue a very low limit credit card in the same spelling of the name that is on your post office box address. Low limit cards are easily maxed-out and rather worthless for thieves to bother with. ~ Never link any online activity with a master bank account. Hold a small bank account for online activity if necessary, again with the spelling of the name on your post office box.
