.Net is the name of a series of programming technologies and protocols that Microsoft put together about 5 years ago. This strategic decision was supposed to put Microsoft at the forefront of web technology and lead to more web savvy tools. Though the tool set has defintely been beneficial to developers, it has not been without its problems. First, Microsoft never truly put out the effort to make the company web integrated. Secondly, some of the strategies initial components such as passport have all but died on the vine. .Net is still very useful, but it will never take the world by storm the way Microsoft intended.
