There just as many identity thieves there as here. Everyone need to take advantage of the free credit reports every year just to keep on top of things. You just never know when something bad will show up on one of the reports falsely. When you spot a wrong item you can challenge it. The item must be removed while the investigation is taking place and if proved to be incorrect left off permanently.
You can get your free credit report from annualcreditreport.com (it's sponsored by the FTC). If you want your credit score (FICO score) though, you have to pay for it.
