How to Build a Storage Building – 3 Considerations

June 2nd, 2009 . by admin

You’ve seen them all up and down your street – front and back yards strewn with old tools, kids’ toys, half-used bags of fertizlier – you name it. It’s not like all of the homeowners are slobs. Rather, they just don’t know what to do with these yard and garden items that fall into that no-man’s land between frequently-used and seldom-used. These are items that you don’t want to put away, but at the same time, you don’t want to create an eyesore. Your yard is probably no exception – I know mine was.

One excellent solution for this problem is to acquire your own storage shed. But, have you seen the prices at Home Depot, Lowes and other major home stores? We are talking $3,000 to $5,000 for even a decent-sized building.

The alternative is of course to build your own storage building, but most people do not know how to build a storage building. If you are wondering about this, here are three considerations for you:

1. In terms of materials and tools, just the standard stuff is fine. This means lumber and hardware, along with hammers and screwderivers.

2. Consider investing in a design guide with thousands of design plans for storage buildings.

3. Treat it as a project, rather than as a task or a chore. Building your own storage building will not be a quick process, but it can be rewarding. And, it is surely much cheaper than most of your other options.
