Purpose of Fish Tank Pumps
October 3rd, 2009 . by adminHaving a fish tank pump is important in owning a fish tank. Looking for the proper fish tank pump is the most difficult part. Fish tanks are usually provided once you purchase a fish tank. The fish tank pump provided to you is often compatible with the size of your tank. But in some cases where you are looking for a new fish tank pump, or the fish tank that you bought did not come with a pump, it is advisable that you consult a pet store employee or a person specializing in fish tank pumps. The importance of fish tank pumps is that they provide oxygen to your fish. Without this, your tank would not be inhabitable for the fish due to the lack of oxygen. If for any reason your fish tank pump breaks down, you must find a replacement for it at once. It is also advisable to have an extra water pump at hand if ever this happens; if your pump does malfunction, you’ll be able to replace it right away.

Do realize these fish will reach 10" in length and are very aggressive, so my guess is the other one is hoarding food from the smaller one. Size is no indication of gender. What you need to do is look at the dorsal fin. Males have a pointy tip on their dorsal, while females have a rounded dorsal.
