In some places exemptions are available for property taxes in certain situations. For example my county has exemptions for owner occupied, home improvements, senior citizens, senior citizen assessment freeze below a certain income, returning veterans, disabled veterans, and other disabled people. Although, those do not depend upon income except the senior citizen assessment freeze. But basically if you can afford to spend more money for a home, you should have the income to back that up.
