When to Take Digestive Enzymes

September 3rd, 2009 . by admin

You can take digestive enzymes at any time and they will do you no harm.  Some believe that taking them on an empty stomach will cause your stomach lining to be digested, but that is nonsense.  What would happen is that they would be absorbed quickly into the bloodstream, and would do you no good – they won’t digest your stomach!

The best time to take digestive enzymes is during or immediately after a meal. Considering that they are secreted naturally when you eat, it makes most sense to sprinkle them over your food: if in capsule form then open it first, and a tablet can be ground or broken up.  Taking them that way is as near as natural as you will get and the enzymes will be mixed with your food throughout the digestion process.

Taking them after is better than before you eat, but you will get most benefit if you take your digestive enzymes along with your meal.  Complete digestion of the foods you eat can help reduce the instance of indigestion and food allergies.

You can find wonderful essential enzymes for digestion at your local or internet health food store. Remember to always look for name brands to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.
