In the early stages of prostate cancer and as long as cancer is confined to the prostate gland there are 3 main prostate cancer treatment options available today. The first is in fact to do nothing at all but to simply watch and wait. In older patients and especially in older patients who are suffering from other medical problems it is frequently considered best to simply leave prostate cancer untreated provided it remains within the prostate gland. The second form of treatment is radiation therapy which is delivered either using traditional radiotherapy methods on an outpatient basis, or by implanting radioactive seeds into the prostate gland. Finally, prostate cancer can be treated by surgically removing the prostate gland.
