Functional Cysts
September 17th, 2008 . by adminFunctional cysts are ovarian cysts that are produced as a result of and during the process of menstruation. There are two types of functional cysts. The first is called a follicular cyst and is created when the egg that is in the follicle does not release or rupture the follicle as would be normal. Instead, the follicle that contains the egg fills up with fluid and once it is larger than 2 centimeters, its considered to be an ovarian cyst.
The second type of funtional cyst is called a Corpus Luteum cyst. This occurs after the egg has left the follicle, but instead of the follicle dissolving as normal, the follicle seals up again and fills with fluid. Again, once its bigger than 2 cetimeters its considered to be a funtional ovarian cyst.
