In the modern-day world of technology, we don’t have adequate chance to get private. Life is pacy and everybody appears to be in a hurry. We dial the telephone and we talk with machines. We spend boring hours on the PC playing games, emailing each other or working with our net pages. Even at work environment, we e-mail the individual in the cubicle three feet away rather than walking over to hand them a role list. 

Don’t misunderstand me. I adore technology. I will not imagine ever being without my computer and am guilty of spending an enormous part of my day working online. The PC and Web afford many possibilities. Now for no cost outside of my Web connection I am able to communicate with people across the entire world. If screened fastidiously, younger people have a whole world of education available at their fingertips. I could continue to expound on the significant benefits that technology has brought into our lives. 

But that isn’t the crux of this document. Due to the technology age of today’s world, our personalized touch with each other is decreasing. We want to make use of the chance to be private. Humans are becoming strangers to each other. Folk are in a rush to get on with the business of living and walk past one another at street level without even a nod. 

Have you wondered exactly why there’s so much clinical depression in the world today? Ask why our youngsters are so troubled. Why many of them attempt suicide or worse the slaying of their classmates or families. Do you conclude as I am doing that we need more of a private touch? Have you taken notice to how you felt when you were standing in a line at a bank and somebody turned and grinned at you. Before that grin you were feeling awfully concerned, presumably drumming your foot in impatience. You were not super happy to be there waiting in a long line. You had things to be done and you were getting more exasperated by the minute. It was one of the common-or-garden drudgeries we have to go thru. 

Then comes this grin from the individual in the line next to you and all of a sudden you’re feeling far better. You are forced to grin back. You do so without giving it thought as if it’s a natural wish to reciprocate the grin. Give it some thought, don’t you’re feeling forced to grin back when a person grins at you? Doesn’t if lift your mood, and bring you out of an exasperated mind-set? But that grin does much more than that. It causes you to feel accepted and liked. Someone cares, and shares the things you go thru. It makes you part of a group, an integral component of the human species.

If you don’t think that our society, do research into why our youngsters join gangs. The children will tell you they’re looking to belong, to take part in something. The gang becomes an extension of the family. There is power in the grin, you see.

It’s as though that instant somebody waved a wand and all of the drudgery vanished. You all of a sudden feel warm and respondent and the individual that offered you a grin has just gone from a stranger to be skeptical of to a kindred spirit. Occasionally, a chat is started and now the ordinary drudgery has actually become a delightful experience. You no longer feel exasperated and rushed and despite yourself and enjoying yourself.

The world is now warm and fuzzy rather than cold, afraid and sour. I don’t mean to suggest that receiving and giving a grin is the answer to the planet’s issues, but it’s a superb starting place. Everyone needs to feel that sense of belonging. We are after all members of the same human family. We should feel moved to embrace one another in our hearts and minds.

So go on and grin. I dare you.

But use caution. You may find the world a friendlier place to live. You could find that folk are warm and kind and appreciative. Your grin might actually make their day.
