These days when liability and risk is such a big concern for a small business owner, most solo entrepreneurs choose to form a single member llc as a legal entity for their business.  This type of legal entity can now be owned by just one member and this is recognized in all 50 states. The best benefit of it is that it gives the solo business owner a layer of liability protection to protect his or her personal assets from loss due to business activity and problems.  Before the LLC, this could only be accomplished through the use of a corporation which is a more complex entity to incorporate and maintain.
