Medical billing is also considered as a BPO because the claims requires collections. Initially after examining the patient doctor records the patient visit & the file is sent to transcription. After transcription the transcript is converted into numerical codes like ICD coding, CPT coding and HCPCS coding. These codes are then billed on cms 1500 form and submitted to insurance. Hence medical transcription, medical billing, medical coding, insurance collections, patient balance collections, insurance appealing all are considered as BPOs.
