Congress can start by ending limo service, converting Congressional pensions to the US standard (401K), implementing health insurance that is no better than WalMart’s, ending franking, cut Congressional staff by 30%, severely limit Congressional travel and then they can start with real cuts. Included in the list are – end two foreign office travel advice wars, close foreign bases starting with Japan, severely cut foreign aid, limit Social Security increases to increases in average wages, mandate Social Security reductions when income falls short of payouts, limit medicare to existing resources (no deficits), eliminate federal revenue sharing, raise all fees and the list goes on. Most of these suggestions would not be acceptable or desirable, but if cuts are the only avenue then that is what you are stuck with.
