Recently at the Chicago Natural History museum their was an exhibit that focused on African music. As part of this exhibition were different kinds of drums that one world find in Africa.One of the most interesting African drums was the Doumbek drum. This drum is shaped somewhat like big mushroom so the artists playing the drum can hold it between their knees leaving their hands free for the drumming.You can see the doumbek drums in any of the old movies like Tarzan etc where the natives are sending messages with drums or some ceremony is taking place.Some people collect them for their unique shape as they make interesting decorations in a family room etc
